Galileo Galilei made the first astronomical observation with a telescope 400 years ago, which is why the UNESCO and the International Astronomical Union has declared 2009 as International Year of Astronomy. In this context, the IES Montes Oriental Iznalloz, in collaboration with the Astronomical Society and the City of Granada in the town, organized a Festival of Stars.
With the goal of awakening a fascination with the contemplation of heaven and bring the public a non-expert observation of the universe, these meetings are taking place in different parts of the country. In Iznalloz, this event was a success of the announcement came as some 300 people of various ages and the entire region.
In Paraje Las Charcas, located in Sierra Arana, the Astronomical Society Granadina installed 8 telescopes and performed a measurement of light pollution in which was a score of 5 on a scale of 1 to 7 (being the very pollution 1 high). These measurement points are inserted into the Google Earth, so Miguel Garrido explains Iznalloz appears as a pretty good point for observation. Miguel Garrido is a professor of physics and chemistry of IES Montes Orientales and responsible event.
